So I'm headed up to Portland for my niece's birthday this weekend. Sitting in the shiny new "D" terminal at McCarran International Airport here in Vegas, thankfully browsing the web via the free Wi-Fi to kill some time. You never know how long security might take these days, and as usual with my luck when I show up 3 hours early I breeze right through with time to kill; if I'm pressed for time there's a ginormous lineup or an equipment malfunction or an extensive cavity search (yeah thanks Mr. TSA, I know I should floss regularly...)
Anyhow, just wanted to say that the whole Wi-Fi thing is really great. I mean, REALLY great. And the fact that it's free here (and apparently not too terribly bandwidth-limited, but that may simply be non-peak time on a Thursday night) is just plain fantastic. So, kudos to the folks in charge here, hopefully this is a trend that will continue across the country. I'm not sure if PDX has the same deal [Updated info] (this is my first trip with my new toy so I've not had occasion to check out the wireless coverage) but it's a seriously useful service for business travellers. We're paying airport facility charges as it is (apparently McCarran is jumping from $3 to $4 soon according to their site) so we may as well get decent services in exchange.
And, I don't wanna jinx anything, but so far it looks like my Alaska flight is on time and in good shape. Alaska has had a few issues with on-time performance in the past, as seasoned travellers may be aware, but I usually have pretty good luck with them. The earlier in the day the better, since they have less time to screw up their schedules, but I tried the 8am flight on my last trip and that's waaaay too early for me to be up in the morning!!!
