By Request: Russia, Switzerland

As requested by Kim in the comments to my previous FSX post, here are some screen caps from Russia and Switzerland.  Same as before, click on the small picture on this page to open the full-size (1920x1200) screen shot in PNG format (up to 4MB or more).

First I tried flying around Moscow, as originally requested, but there were few distinct buildings included.  Here's a shot of the Kremlin / Red Square:

Moving to the Northwest, I thought I'd give St. Petersburg a try, as well as taking a Bell JetRanger 206 out for a spin.  Here we have a bit more ornate of a building (I suspect it's St. Isaac's Cathedral):

And of course one of the most famous landmarks in St. Petersburg is The Hermitage museum (formerly the Tsar's Winter Palace):

And here is a very detailed cathedral (I think it's this one based on the similar architecture):

I tried flying around several locations in Colorado in winter, but oddly could not find any decent snowy mountain terrain.  So, I popped over to Interlaken, Switzerland, for a sunset flight through the Alps.  Here's the daunting departure that faced me:

Those Alps are pretty steep, so I figured I'd use a couple of notches of flaps to really test the short take-off capabilities of this Maule M-7 (which, I must say, while not particularly beautiful to look at is an absolute JOY to fly!)

The interior is pretty detailed, check out the placards posted on the door and the instrument panel:

And this aircraft is all about the visibility.  You've just gotta love a plane with a frickin' SUNROOF!!!

Slowly making our way up into the mountains, struggling to gain altitude faster than the ground ahead of us!

Alas, the mountains proved too steep to get over, so we had to turn back for one of the two scenic lakes:

And, finally, the sun sets on our little Swiss adventure.

Wow! Interlaken is breathtaking. I could almost smell the fresh, snowy air. I do love that Russian architecture. I took advantage of the links too. Thanks for the virtual tour!
