So I failed to account for the terrible freeway traffic in Portland, and was a bit later than I'd like getting back to the airport for my return to Las Vegas. I searched around near PDX for a gas station to fill the tank on the rental, but after cutting it too close without finding anything (seriously... how is it that there are no gas stations for dozens of blocks on both Killingsworth and Columbia?) I figured screw it, I'll take the hit on the insanely overpriced gas charge anyway, I don't have time to drive through that craptastic traffic.
Breezed through security no problem (didn't have to remove my belt this time, like I did on my last trip through PDX).
Got to the gate for my flight... and found the notice that while it was scheduled to depart at 5:49pm, there would be a "status update" at 6pm instead. Ugh.
So I've gotta figure the good news would be if it was only a couple of hours late... worst case, it may be canceled entirely. At this point, I've got a half hour before I know any more.
What was that I was saying earlier about my good luck with Alaska???
[UPDATE: 6:34pm] Ayup. Canceled. But at least they've got me booked on another flight tonight, America West leaving only 2 hours after my original flight was scheduled. So now we'll see how first class is on America West. I don't recall if I've ever flown them before, they always seem to have more expensive flights and less convenient schedules than other carriers.
But it's hard to get less convenient than a canceled flight, after all. ;-)
At least Alaska didn't make me take their own, later flight out this evening -- they gave me the option of either flight. Of course, they're only offering 1,000 bonus miles and a $6 snack voucher for my trouble, so there may still be a strongly worded letter in their future...
